Joachim Ufheil was born and educated in Germany. He studied Chemistry at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and received his doctorate in physcial chemistry at the Freiburg Materials Research Center (2002).

Thereafter he was postdoctoral fellow in the General Energy Research Department at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen.

In 2007 he worked as researcher in the R&D department at Mettler-Toledo Process, Urdorf.

At the end of 2009 he joined Somont, Umkirch as a process technology specialist.
